Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is a serious condition in which breathing is repetitively stopped and restarted. Symptoms of the condition include constant tiredness, gasping for air during sleep, difficulty staying asleep, irritability, waking up with a headache, and morning headaches.
Individuals with sleep apnea can suffer from other adverse chronic conditions, such as high blood pressure. The most common type of this condition is obstructive sleep apnea, which occurs when the weakness of the facial and throat muscles causes a collapse of the upper airway. People who have pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, asthma and obesity are more likely to suffer from sleep apnea. Obesity is considered to be one of the main causes of sleep apnea.
With Hallmark Wellbeing, our programme involves strengthening the facial, throat, and neck muscles. This teaches clients how to manage the condition naturally without the use of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines. We also focus on other factors that may worsen sleep apnea, such as diet and lifestyle choices.
Diabetes (T2D)
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition in which the body's ability to regulate and use glucose is impaired. Long-term, high blood sugar levels can lead to other circulatory, nervous, and immune complications. In today's world, type 2 diabetes is common due to a sedentary lifestyle and an increase in obesity.
While there is no cure, healthy living through exercise and eating a balanced diet is the key to managing the condition. Weight loss is a significant factor in helping individuals with type 2 diabetes keep their glucose levels within the non-diabetes range.
Our diabetes programme will help to teach you several methods of dealing with the disease. Our methods include physical activity, relaxation exercises, and diet plans to help clients live a sustainable lifestyle with diabetes.
High Blood Pressure
Also known as hypertension, high blood pressure is a common condition in which the high pressure of blood pushing against artery walls will eventually cause health problems such as heart disease. Some of the risk factors include alcohol consumption, smoking, and obesity. As the blood pressure increases, individuals may experience headaches, dizziness, or alterations in vision.
Managing high blood pressure and maintaining it at healthy levels is dependent on several factors. One of the main ways to do so is by maintaining a healthy weight. This is done by following a healthy diet and avoiding foods high in cholesterol and saturated fats. Regular exercise is also a crucial method in maintaining weight. Stress management is recommended as feelings of stress can aggravate blood pressure, worsening the condition.
The programme offered by Hallmark Wellbeing adopts a holistic approach to dealing with high blood pressure. A balance of physical and mental well-being is essential in effectively managing high blood pressure. As well as prescribing exercises and diet plans, our approach also focuses on the mental aspects of managing stress. The programme's main outcome is a lifestyle change that will help our clients lead healthier lives.
High Cholesterol
(Hyperlipidemia Cholesterol)
Cholesterol is a substance inside the body that is circulated inside blood vessels. The body needs cholesterol to build cells and produce vitamins and hormones. There are two types of cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. LDL cholesterol is known as 'bad' cholesterol, as, in excess, it causes plaque build-up in blood vessels. HDL cholesterol is desirable as it helps prevent cholesterol build-up in the blood vessels. Symptoms of having moderately high cholesterol include nausea, extreme fatigue, shortness of breath, and numbness in the extremities. More severe cases of high cholesterol can result in chest pain, heart attack, or stroke.
One of the leading causes of high cholesterol is having a high-fat diet. This extra fat triggers an increase in the production of very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, which progressively forms into LDL cholesterol, blocking the blood vessels in the body. Age is another factor as body functions decline as people get older, resulting in the liver and small intestine secreting less of the good HDL cholesterol and causing high cholesterol overall. Other factors include hereditary risk and smoking.
Our programme to manage high cholesterol is by making changes to one's lifestyle with the aim of regulating and improving cholesterol levels. Having a well-planned exercise routine focusing on the management of high cholesterol. Dietary changes are also a key way to maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Additionally, smoking cessation is a way to improve high cholesterol better.
Cardio Pulmonary Rehabilitation
The body’s respiratory system can be damaged by illnesses such as Covid-19, resulting in difficulty breathing. The elderly, as well as individuals with chronic respiratory conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, are most at risk of suffering from a weakened respiratory system.
Our programme teaches exercises that can be used to strengthen the cardiopulmonary functions in the body, serving as protection against illnesses.
The outcome of this programme is improved heart and lung function, protecting you from conditions that may otherwise cause serious damage to the respiratory system.
